Tumblr Buddy Gifts!
Buddy, this made my day. I love those napkins! They are perfect! The wine journal is genius, the photo album is super cute, I’m intrigued by Moonshine Jelly, the emergency kit is so practical and Bruno loves the toy! Thanks T.B., I hope you’re having a great week. Enjoy the Olympics!

Sibling Story Hour
I’m not sure why this popped into my head today, but it’s my favorite story about my youngest brother and I wanted to share. I got really into fitness the spring of my senior year in high school. I read a lot of ivillage articles, ate a lot of yogurt, and had a subscription to Fitness magazine. One day I was lying on the floor, my issue of Fitness open next to me, doing my regular...

Wednesday Things
I married my husband exactly two years after we met. We dated for 8 months before we got engaged. We moved in together one month after our engagement. Moving in together was also the first time we lived in the same state. When I say these things out loud I can hear how crazy it sounds. Somehow it works. He’s my opposite in many ways, and sometimes I get a little jealous of those...

I’ve been reading this, for future reference. So far, I’m furiously fascinated. Fascinated because our bodies are such incredible things. I’ve learned so much already. Furious because why does no one teach us this? I feel like I’ve been told bits and pieces of this information over the years but never all of it.  Like, the cervix...

Ever since our roommate moved in the dog is no...
He follows him around, he hangs out in his room, he greets him much more warmly than either of us.  We’ve essentially been replaced.  This is hard for me because previously I was the favorite.  I was the one he wanted to be with all the time. Now Brun doesn’t even want to cuddle with me anymore. And when our roommate is gone? This happens.

Today I walked into work and swiped my badge and...
Then I proceeded to freak the hell out because why would my badge not work?! Possible Answers: a) Because they fired me without telling me  b) Because our contract ended early, so essentially answer a c) Because someone forgot to send in paperwork A phone call at the guard station led me to find out the correct answer is C. I’m given access for the day and told to figure out who I...

Partially because I have a headache that will not quit. Partially because I couldn’t face another minute wearing real pants. I’ll leave you to determine the percentages.

I grew up in NW DC (although, back in the 80s, DC was hardly what it is now), have never watched a full episode of Oprah, Dr. Phil, or Judge Judy, and don’t have the attention span to be a big movie buff. But I do own a Jimmie Johnson shirt (it was more of a...

I watched these documentaries last night and was fascinated. Probably because both examine sects of people I don’t understand: those who keep exotic animals as pets, and those who are very literal interpreters of their religion.  Highly recommended.

Scenes from a Southern Marriage
After mowing half of our tiny yard Zach comes in and collapses on the floor.  Zach: It’s a million degrees outside.  Shaba: It is. I’m melting and I’m inside. You know, I don’t really want to own a pool, but I think if we have kids in the South we’ll need a pool. Zach: Yea. They certainly can’t play outside otherwise.

Cleaning Tip From Pinterest
Mix together 12 oz Dawn dish soap and 12 oz of microwave-warmed white vinegar.  Put mixture in spray bottle. Spray on any bath tub, tile, whatever. Wipe off and be amazed! For super tough dirt leave on for for a few hours, up to over night! That’s pretty much what the Pin states.  Here are my changes: I poured 1/4 cup of dawn into a measuring cup and added 1/4 cup of non-microwaved white...

Saturday
Cleaned the bathroom with the Pinterest dawn+vinegar trick. Game. Changer. Random lunch and double feature with my husband. Moonrise Kingdom was amazing. I’d watch it again. It was beautiful and funny and made me just the right amount of uncomfortable. Brave was, well, it’s a kid’s film. Halfway through I was kinda bored. However, I LOVE that it was a woman centered film.  I...

Things (Part 2)
Work Slow doesn’t even begin to describe it. We still have no news about what will happen to us after September. I like my job. I like my coworkers. I’d really like to be here in six months. That said, I’m a realist and have been looking around to see what’s out there. Unfortunately a lot of what’s out there is located in D.C. and a multiple hour commute is not doable. I could possibly make...

Things (Part 1)
Beach Week and my roller coaster emotions  It was lovely. Full of food and friend and family, sun and sand, more drinking than recommended by the surgeon general, and lots of relaxation. This time around I started anticipating the inevitable “my family is leaving on Saturday and I don’t know if I’ll see them before Thanksgiving” mood swing early-I made myself aware of the days as the passed and...

Month 1
Renting a room to an engineering intern who used to work as a contractor has been awesome.  So far he’s helped us motivate to call the damn exterminator, knock down a wall, move ever closer to finishing the bathroom (it’s just a joke at this point, I bet we won’t finish it until we sell the place), get new carpeting, clean and reorganize the garage, and he just drew us some...
